...but how do I capture this magical effect?

My wish for you...

Fire Ball
Fire Ball

It is customary to send a New Year greeting to friends, family, collectors, colleagues and work associates. I found myself resisting this task because it did not feel genuine.

Although 2023 was not my best year by a long shot, I am actually looking at 2024 with much more trepidation. Yes, there is so many disturbing events in the world and threats of more to come, COVID and new infections that tend to make me reluctant to be social or even leave my bubble. It is also and election year, another high emotion rouser. Doug and I are blessed with centurion plus fathers, but how much longer will they be with us? Let me be honest, it is not pleasant to watch them decline. As we age up we are staring at what may be our future. It ain't pretty...

Another confession, I have not painted, really, since November! That makes it hard to get going again and in todays market, I ask myself why bother? Does anyone care? What difference does it make in this world?

Others,  thankfully do remind us our art is needed in this world, the beauty and the comforting spirit it can bring. It is true. I have to admit that I have been blown away a few times when I have been told that my art had gotten someone through tragic  or tough times. Who knew I could have such an impact just my expressing what I see and feel.

I am definitely struggling with winter blues and overwhelming mixed emotions. I guess sensitivity is my blessing and curse. I do have to find my why, my purpose to continue. This year I dedicate to focus my work on the very basic elements of nature and human existence. I feel the truth lies there. I think the work will be more expressive but we shall see how it develops. You will have to check in to see what I am talking about.  ;  )

At the end of 2023 I gave an unframed Petite to one of my website subscribers, Jeannette Young. It felt good to surprise someone and just maybe, give them some happiness and delight. We need more of that don't you think?

PETITE # 29

I have decided that I will GIFT an unframed  Petite, every year to a subscriber. (HINT, subscribe to my email list on my website, on the bottom of the home page. You will be  kept up to date on my work and whatever I am up to AND maybe you will be selected in 2024 to receive a Petite!) https://www.susanmstory.com

In closing, my wish for you is to find your peace, your joy, your compassion wherever it may be, as small or simple as it may be in everyday. Perhaps with nature on a walk, maybe with beautiful art on your walls or maybe it is a good book, music, or the sunshine, it is helpful to others and this world to show compassion and give kindness. It will also be a gift I wish for you.

Hear is to HAPPINESS IN 2024!

SUSAN

Susan, I have been inspired by your work for several years. I just love it. I am not a collector anymore. I live with my husband in Chiang Mai Thailand and love it.
I want to give you some unsolicited advice..
1. Forget the physical decline of loved ones and even yourself.
2. Just paint for the sheer pleasure of it. Forget the art market.
3. Take each day as it comes.
4. Ignore the scare mongers.
5. Know that you are appreciated and loved.
6. Know that you and your art make a huge difference in the lives of people like me.
7. You are a wonderful soul and human being.
Loads of love to you from the other side of the world.

I look at your art work every morning--many are hanging in my living room, I look forward to you continuing your work with gusto! If I recall, you just had a birthday!

The 2023 year was very hard and have had similar issues to yours and hard to stay hopeful and not worry....my husband has been dealing with cancer and it is so hard not to be able to fix it....had several family members and friends dealing with the same and chronic pain and heart issues with no help available....some have died....yes we are there in that hard time of life where loss of life of dear ones is prevalent and devastating to our norm ....but I keep trying to surrender to God's will and deal with hope for all going through the same....God bless you all....hoping for a better year of remission ....keep painting to keep our balance and pray.....

This woman sounds like a woman who created beautiful art and was caring, this was her name Juliet and her husband's was Kurt, he was a doc
tor whom I worked for many years.
When I wanted to leave I told them I wanted to work for another office which had five providers and they were so kind to write a referral, a kind and caring referral that every time I read it I cried.
After working several years for them, I wanted to retire and I left there feeling that this was a righteous decision.
After leaving them I heard that the first doctor I worked for became seriously ill.
The story that Susan was told I wondered if it was about them. So here I am writing you and wonder if the Juliet I knew was the same as in this story. ?
